"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
~ Michael Jordan
Welcome to the Droitwich Spa U11 Panthers webpage for the 2011-12 season. The above quotation from Michael Jordan is a good place to start and sums up our approach to training and player development. Although they are often their own biggest critics the players are encouraged to realise that mistakes will happen and to understand that making mistakes is an important part of learning. Just acknowledge the mistake, learn from it, smile, and start again!
The new season heralds a new era of 9v9 football for the team which we are all looking forward to. The team plays in Div 1 of the Stourport and District Youth Football League and plays its games on Saturday mornings at either St Peters Fields or King Georges Playing Fields in Droitwich. Match reports will appear on this page but you will notice they will focus on the performance of the players rather than result. If we focus on performance the results will look after themselves!
The majority of the team have been together for a number of years, however the core skills of the game still form the basis of our training sessions with a view to working these skills into match situations. This, coupled with a good appetite for hard work, and a keen willingness to learn within a fun environment has seen the squad make encouraging progress over the last few seasons.
The players are always encouraged to express themselves and try new skills in matches, with enjoyment and individual and collective performance always taking precedence over match results.
In addition the team are taught to play the game in the correct manner, upholding the principles of fair play, sportsmanship and respect for all those they come into contact with.
Finally a big thank you to our team sponsor Regal Property Fund whose continuing generosity has seen the team kitted out in new tracksuits and rain jackets for the new season, most welcome by November I’m sure!
Best wishes, Rob and Simon.
