DROITWICH SPA LADIES BOOK PLACE IN FINAL
Droitwich Spa Ladies FC started their new year in fine style by booking a place in the final of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Women’s League Cup following a 2-0 victory over Leominster Town Ladies.
In the first half of their inaugural season Droitwich Ladies had performed commendably. 2011 had finished well with an excellent 5-1 league win against Pershore Town Ladies just before Christmas. Having not had a match since then Droitwich began their semi final rather nervously. After a tight and sometimes scrappy first half in which chances for both teams were at a premium the tie was evenly poised at 0-0. However, after the break Droitwich played in a far more assured way and created several good goal scoring opportunities before finally securing their place in the final with goals from Tanya Hill and Penny Fletcher
Droitwich coach, Ian Fry said “This team was only set up two weeks before the start of the current season and the girls have all worked fantastically hard to get to where we are now. For the girls to have won themselves a thoroughly deserved place in the final of the League Cup is a really fantastic achievement. I couldn’t be more proud of them. We’re really looking forward to the final and the rest of our league season”.
